I never thought the day would come. My favorite player playing in my favorite league. God bless Sam Allardyce for signing Hidetoshi Nakata from Fiorentina. The genius footballer from the land of the rising sun will finally get his day in the…sun. Right. I always liked the exciting play style of the Bolton Wanderers, and if Allardyce makes good on his word and puts Nakata on the field…I’m signing up for satellite yesterday! I’m loving the UK more and more!

There was a simpler time when the Cookie Monster would devour cookies and then sing “C is for Cookie, that’s good enough for me”. As American obesity levels are reaching astronomical levels, some are pointing the finger at popular children’s TV shows and their producers for luring kids into eating snacks high in sugar and fats. In response, this month Spongebob and Dora have started appearing on carrots and peel-off tattoos in bags of spinach. The Sesame Street gang is also pimping fruits and vegetables. Now the veggie monster says “A cookie is a sometimes food” and sings “C is for carrots and cantaloupes, not just cookies.” Wtf?

They might as well change Oscar the Grouch to Oscar the Cheerful or separate the siamese Two-Headed Monster and give them their own bodies. What is this, the second age of Babbitt? Why can’t things be out in left field, controversial, and a little wacky anymore? There’s something very strange about this country and some really weird forces at work. Why couldn’t they have just created a new monster called the Veggie or the Fruity Monster (oh yea, guess that’s way too obvious compared with spongebob being, ahem)… and then slowly give the Cookie guy less air-time. With the economy the way it is, I’m sure he would have been happy just to be able to keep his job.

ABC News anchor Peter Jennings died Sunday at his Manhattan home. He had been off the air since April when he announced he had lung cancer. Canadian-born and a high school dropout who ended up being voted Best TV Anchor five times by readers of the American Journalism Review, more than any other while serving as anchor for ABC “World News Tonight”.

While the content of Tom Brokaw’s NBC “Nightly News” seemed to consistently be the most engaging, Jennings always had the best delivery, and therefore got my vote as the best news anchor. Of course I have to mention the guy at CBS, Dan Rather, who despite years of neglect from me as a viewer, got lots of Nielson hours with his expose of President George W. Bush’s National Guard “duty”. You know what? In retrospect, I may actually have been tuning in to Dan more than the others. Brokaw retired in November, and Rather in March. Now the only interesting guy to watch is Charlie Rose, who is an interviewing god. No, I never could sit down for a whole hour to watch Larry King. I guess I have to settle for watching CSPAN2 and getting news first hand…oops, I almost forgot about Google News. Well, so long boys and it was a hell of a ride!

今、America で最も人気のあるテレビドラマのひとつ “The OC”！タイトル通り、California[カリフォルニア] 州、Orange County[オレンジ・カウンティ] の Newport Beach[ニューポートビーチ] で繰り広げられる高校生たちの恋愛お約束ドラマ。6月でセカンドシーズンの放送が終了し、サードシーズンは、１０月頃から放送が始まる予定。まだ見ていない人は、今のうちにチェキラウトしておいて。ちなみに、只今、セカンドシーズンの再放送中 （Fox TV 木曜夜８時）。日本ではファーストシーズンのDVDが出ていると思うんだけど・・・なっ。

ドラマの主人公は４人。Ryan Atwood[ライアン] と Marissa Cooper[マリッサ]、Seth Cohen[セス] と Summer Roberts[サマー] はそれぞれカップルなんだけど、またこれが、離れたり、くっついたり。しかも、みんな超お金持ち。でも、元々 Ryan だけは、貧乏な街で生まれ育ち、家族も崩壊してしまって・・・って時に弁護士である Seth のお父さん、Sandy Cohen[サンディ] に出会うんだ。そして、養子として、受け入れられ・・・。ストーリーはそこから展開していくんだ。このドラマの面白さは、その主人公の高校生物語だけじゃなくて、彼らの両親、親戚、などなど、大人の恋愛が、こー、まざって、からみあって、こうなって、あーなって、ギューン！[gyunn!] と、轟さんみたいにあるってとこかな。はまっちゃったら、ナイスです！[nice desu!]

The problems in East Asia are also the responsibility of the countries in the region. Instead of waiting and hoping for an imperialistic America to fix all the problems it has caused and is still causing, it is more realistic to promote change within the very countries that are being affected by these problems. An alternative solution for Japan, South Korea, North Korea, China and Taiwan to break the cycle of dominance and manipulation by the hegemony of the United States of America, is to band together and create an East Asian Union, similar to that of the European Union.
